I have a property claim, what do I do?
Whether it is your home or a commercial property when a claim happens you need to minimize the further damage and contact your agent immediately. For example, if you have a water leak, you need to turn off the water. Then, notify your Insurance Agent who will be able to guide you through the next phase. Your Agent will remind you of any deductibles you may have that will be applied to your claim and will either file the claim on your behalf or direct you to the proper authority where to file your claim. A claim adjuster should contact you within a 24 hour period and respond to your needs.
If the claim is in response to a WATER, FIRE OR SMOKE incident, you are usually safe in calling a professional restoration company immediately to help abate the problem. Your agent should be able to refer you to companies in your area with reputable references.
If you have a water related claim be sure to contact your agent no matter how minimal you think the damage may be. You could have damage you cannot see such as mold or water intrusion under materials like tile, drywall or cabinets. So the main thing is to be proactive when you experience an insurance claim.
